Notary Bonds

Notary Public Appointment (KRS 423.010) Notary Public commissions are valid for four (4) years. The following requirements must be met:

  • Applicant must be eighteen years or older
  • Resident of county or work in the county
  • Good moral character
  • Capable of discharging duties imposed by law
  • Cannot be a convicted felon
  • To acquire a Notary Bond in Kentucky you must apply through the Secretary of State’s office,  http://web.sos.ky.gov/notaries/NotaryPublic

  • Once notice of the “Certificate of Appointment” is approved, a $1000 bond must be purchased with the date of the bond starting the day  of the appointment.
  • Bring bond to the Clerk’s office to be sworn in and the process completed.
  • There is a $19 Recording Fee.
