Notary Bonds
Notary Public Appointment (KRS 423.010) Notary Public commissions are valid for four (4) years. The following requirements must be met:
- Applicant must be eighteen years or older
- Resident of county or work in the county
- Good moral character
- Capable of discharging duties imposed by law
- Cannot be a convicted felon
- To acquire a Notary Bond in Kentucky you must apply through the Secretary of State’s office, http://web.sos.ky.gov/notaries/NotaryPublic
Instructions are available there as well. - Once notice of the “Certificate of Appointment” is approved, a $1000 bond must be purchased with the date of the bond starting the day of the appointment.
- Bring bond to the Clerk’s office to be sworn in and the process completed.
- There is a $19 Recording Fee.
